If you’re feeling bad about yourself today, then know that a 21 year old girl lost an internship at NASA because of her tweets. Twitter user Naomi H over-excitedly shared the news of her selection at NASA.
“EVERYONE SHUT THE F*** UP. I GOT ACCEPTED FOR A NASA INTERNSHIP,” she tweeted. Somehow the tweet reached Homer Hickam, a former NASA engineer and member of the National Space Council. He pulled a Captain America and asked her to watch her language.
Overexcited Naomi H unknowingly tried to sass him by throwing in some expletives. “Suck my d**k and b***s I’m working at NASA,” she replied. However, she was left red-faced when he responded with “And I am on the National Space Council that oversees NASA.”
As it turns out, the intern was later fired by NASA over their little exchange on Twitter. However, Hickam mentioned in his blog that he never intended to get her in trouble and felt bad for her.
“I learned she had lost her offer for an internship with NASA,” he wrote in his blog. “This I had nothing to do with, nor could I since I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever. As it turned out, it was due to the NASA hashtag her friends used that called the agency’s attention to it long after my comments were gone. For what it’s worth, I want to extend @NaomiH_official my deepest condolences for having this opportunity torn away from her by an old chud.”
Naomi has since deleted the tweets and made her account private on Twitter following harsh online bullying over the incident.
